The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed June 11 as "International Day of Play" to be celebrated annually starting this year.
Play opens up a world of possibilities, and the resolution recognizes the importance of play in promoting the education, development and well-being of children around the world. Any child can reach their full potential, if they have time, space and access to play. It's time to once again give the game the attention it deserves and place it as a priority on the agenda. Play fosters resilience, instills confidence and contributes to children's development. There are countless reasons for all of us to celebrate the power of play. We want a world where every child's right to play is respected, protected and fulfilled. Participating is as easy as setting aside some time to play on June 11. Together, we can make play a priority every day of the year.
